My Big Night Out

Today wasn't too bad at work. I got some stuff done. It took me forever to do the meringue for the lemon meringue pies. So, chef ended up doing it for me. Why? Because she told me to use 1.5 times the amount of sugar than whites and I whipped the hell out of them and she finally said that they're fine, but when I scooped them onto the miniature pies, they kept sliding around so I rewhipped them (oh, this was the third time, by the way) per her instructions, adding some whites from the carton. Well, in the end, she tossed them out and started over. I never have that much trouble doing them when she's not around. It was quite frustrating, I'm telling you!

Tired as I was, I went ice skating. Didn't skate after the resurfacing, I was too tired. Ended up eating at Heaven on Seven. Had the Cajun Crab Cakes, which came with a Potato and Parmesan Soup, and had Coconut Cream Cake for dessert. The soup was the best part of the meal. It was velvety and creamy and had the exact right amount of parmesan. The crab cakes were spicy, but that's about all. Nothing too distinguishing about the flavor or the plating. And the cake. Well, maybe I was expecting too much. It was more like a three-layer pound cake with thin scraping of icing with some toasted coconut. It came with coconut creme anglaise and caramel sauces and a dusting of powdered sugar. I think I'd only order the soup again. What can I say? But, it was just one level down from the theater, so it was convenient.

I finally saw Memoirs of a Geisha. I'd read the book years ago and really need to re-read it. I'm confusing some things with Geisha: A Life, and I'd just like to revisit the book again in general. It was a really good movie. Now, it's late and I'm home, needing to take my shower and get ready for tomorrow. At least I don't have to be in until 3. Speaking of which, they now want me to work all nights. I can go in from 1:00 - 9:30, or 2:00 - close. I'll never date again, not that I'm dating now, but at least a girl would like to have the option open. I'm thinking of doing the 1:00 on Mondays and Tuesdays and having Wednesdays and Thursdays off. I don't know; we'll see.

Well, I'd better get going. I'm having a difficult time getting up in the mornings. Today I felt like a cranky 5 year-old who hadn't had a nap.
